Sarah Thomas is first woman to officiate an NFL playoff game

The first woman to work an NFL playoff game as an on-field official was the down judge in Sunday’s divisional-round game between the Chargers and Patriots. That’s a first, according to the league’s Twitter account. Thomas was hired in 2015 and was the league’s first female full-time official. Terri Valenti was the replay official in Saturday’s playoff game between the Colts and Chiefs, also a first. Washington radio station WTOP reported that Thomas began officiating in 1996 for the Gulf Coast Football Officials Association and worked her first high school game in 1999.
