Giants’ Evan Longoria breaks hand, surgery possible

By By John Shea MIAMI — Evan Longoria’s first season with the Giants hasn’t gone as the third baseman envisioned, both offensively and defensively, and now he’s heading to the disabled list with a fractured fifth metacarpal in his left hand.

Longoria was drilled on the back of the hand by a Dan Straily 89-mph fastball in the fourth inning. He elected to stay in the game to run the bases but quickly realized the damage to his pinkie was severe.
