Negotiations in Oakland worker strike end without a deal, walkout continues

Oakland and its striking unions briefly returned to the bargaining table on Thursday afternoon but walked away without a deal, extending the labor walkout of 3,000 workers to a fourth day. During the hourlong negotiations, the city made what it called a final, best offer that Rob Szykowny, SEIU Local 1021’s chief negotiator, described as “offensive.” He said the city described it as a take-it-or-leave-it proposal and threatened to declare impasse if the union didn’t accept it.
