A’s trade Sean Doolittle, Ryan Madson to Nationals

By By Susan Slusser and Steve Kroner Trading experienced players for younger ones is nothing new for the A’s, and on Sunday, they sent two relievers in their 30s to Washington for a 29-year-old pitcher and two minor-leaguers.

Oakland dealt Sean Doolittle, 30, and Ryan Madson, 36, to the Nationals for right-hander Blake Treinen, minor-league infielder Sheldon Neuse and minor-league left-hander Jesus Luzardo.

The Nationals (54-36) lead the NL East by 9½ games, but have endured plenty of late-game woes from their bullpen.

The right-hander spent the first nine seasons (2003-11) in the NL East with the Phillies.
