Yosemite offers $1,000 reward for stolen Ahwahnee Hotel sign

The mystery of Yosemite’s stolen Ahwahnee Hotel sign, which was snatched just days before the hotel lost its historic name in a trademark dispute, continues to baffle federal investigators.

The roughly 2-foot-tall metal artifact, which officials describe as an “art deco themed” sign dating to 1930, sat atop a gatehouse on the road to the landmark hotel until it disappeared on the last weekend of February.

The hotel changed names March 1, becoming the Majestic Yosemite Hotel after the lodge’s outgoing operator demanded $51 million for ownership of the old name and other intellectual property.
