Hiker who fell off Marin County cliff rescued by CHP helicopter

A stranded hiker who suffered major injuries had to be rescued by a California Highway Patrol helicopter crew after falling 40 feet down a cliff in Marin County Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.

Around 4:45 p.m., the CHP’s air unit was requested by the Marin County Fire Department to help search for the hiker who had fallen down a cliff face near Tomales Point at the northern end of Tomales Bay, said Officer James Andrews, a CHP spokesman.

The hiker was flown to nearby Dillon Beach where he was transferred to a waiting ambulance and taken to a hospital with major injuries, though
