Cal’s Derron Brown finds right fit at linebacker

A month after his switch from safety, Brown is perhaps the Bears’ most productive pass rusher.

Division I interest in Brown was tepid, at best, after he missed his senior season at Phoenix-area’s Fairfax High School.

Brown chose the Bears over offers from Arizona and Arizona State, in part for a shot at immediate playing time.

Limited mostly to special teams, Brown totaled just five tackles last season.

Cracking the first-team secondary in 2016 seemed unlikely for him, given that Drew was coming back and former starter Griffin Piatt was finally healthy.
